Our complete guide covers the pros and cons of Travelers auto insurance and compares company rates against other top insurers in the country. Keep reading to compare quotes and find out if Travelers can save you money on car insurance.

Is Travelers Companies, Inc. a Good Choice?

Yes, customers believe Travelers is a good insurance company with which to renew their current policies. They appreciate its affordable and competitive rates. Additionally, policyholders state that Travelers is one of the best insurers in terms of claims handling, ranking higher than Progressive and State Farm with J.D. Power

The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) gives Travelers a .43 complaint ratio, meaning it receives far fewer complaints than other national insurers. However, customers are still unlikely to recommend Travelers Insurance due to the company’s lack of customer service options and availability.

Customers have several ways to buy auto insurance, and Travelers makes paying your bills and submitting claims easy with its website and app. The company also offers ample options for saving money with discounts, but if you’re looking for the most affordable rates, you may get a better deal on coverage by going with a company like State Farm or GEICO.

Still, you should compare quotes to ensure you are getting the coverage you want at a price that works with your budget.

Does Travelers auto insurance have good ratings and reviews?

Travelers has an A++ (Superior) financial strength rating with A.M. Best. Additionally, the company has an A rating with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). The NAIC found that Travelers has fewer complaints than one would expect for a company of its size.

The BBB customer rating for Travelers is just 1.1 out of 5 stars. Its other industry ratings are as follows:

  • J.D. Power: 3-5
  • NAIC: 0.43
  • S&P: AA
  • Moody’s: A2

Travelers is a well-known and respected company, and it has garnered many encouraging ratings. If you’re considering purchasing a policy with Travelers, read customer reviews online to better understand how past and present policyholders feel about the company.

Does Travelers insurance have good customer service?

Travelers customers are happy with the claims handling but not necessarily with the customer service aspect of the company. Still, the company garners fewer than the expected number of complaints for a company of its size.

According to Travelers insurance reviews, only 44% of Travelers policyholders state they are wholly satisfied with their policies and experiences with the company regarding customer service.

The satisfaction rate increases, however, once customers file a claim, as 56% Travelers policyholders who recently filed claims report that they are completely satisfied with their experience.

Does Travelers insurance handle claims well?

Travelers received encouraging ratings in terms of how it handles claims. Nearly 62% of Travelers customers report being completely satisfied with the ease of filing a claim. And 65% of policyholders state they were completely satisfied with how Travelers resolved their claims.

Average rates with Travelers are around 11% below the national average, which is $1,539 annually or $128 monthly. The company consistently has slightly below average rates in each demographic mentioned below.

Every insurance company develops rates by considering several factors. Travelers determines unique rates for each of its policyholders based on age, driving history, credit score, coverage type, and more.

The average cost for a full coverage policy with Travelers is $1,287 annually or $107 per month. The national average for this same policy is $1,477 or $123 per month.

To avoid paying so much in the event of an accident, it may be a better idea for you to carry a full coverage policy, which includes both collision and comprehensive coverage.

Depending on what you’re looking for, Travelers may have the coverage options you need to feel safe and secure on the road.

What services do you get with a Travelers auto insurance policy?

When you purchase car insurance with Travelers, you can take advantage of the company’s roadside assistance plan, the Travelers mobile app, the company’s IntelliDrive program, and the option for a decreasing deductible on your policy.

Does Travelers sell other insurance?

Travelers sells insurance policies outside of auto insurance, including:

  • Motorcycle
  • Boat and yacht
  • Wedding
  • Event
  • Home
  • Travel
  • Condo
  • Renters
  • Landlord
  • Pet
  • Valuable Items
  • Umbrella
  • Business

You may be able to take advantage of a bundled policy discount if you choose one or more additional insurance options with Travelers.

What is IntelliDrive with Travelers?

Travelers offers IntelliDrive, a usage-based program that allows the company to track specific elements of how you drive on a regular basis. Via an app from Travelers, IntelliDrive assesses things about your driving habits, such as:

  • Stops and starts
  • Acceleration
  • Overall speed
  • Driving time of day
  • Distance driven

Travelers offers IntelliDrive as a way for policyholders to potentially save money on their insurance policies. If you use this program, you may be able to save as much as 30% on your rates, so long as you prove yourself to be a safe driver.

The IntelliDrive app has positive reviews on Google Play and the App Store. However, some customers complain that the app shows inaccurate driving information.

The downside of enrolling in a program like IntelliDrive is that your rates can increase if you have risky driving habits. So, if you’re not sure whether how you drive could actually save money on a policy with Travelers, you may not want to enroll in the IntelliDrive program.

HORRIBLE

BY FAR THE WORST COMPANY I HAVE EVER WORKED WITH. I was yelled at and hung up on by our agent. I was told to stop asking questions because it was making things take longer. I was told I was being argumentative instead of anyone actually listening to my questions. I was hung up on for asking to speak to a supervisor. I was given different information every single time I spoke with someone. As someone who has been in customer service for over 14 years, I have never seen customer treated as poorly as I was throughout this experience. Nasty, mean people that could care less about their customers. The first thing the tow company and the auto body shop asked was if I was ok after my accident. Travelers never asked anything like that. Instead, they blamed and shamed me.

Increasing price for no obvious reason

I never had any problems with the coverage, but the price kept going up and up even as my car got older, and I had no tickets or accidents. I changed companies and got the same coverage for a lot less.

Great company, always there when you need them. I just don't like that sometimes your bill goes up when you have a wreck.
